Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee …” – Jeremiah 1:5

It is an amazing thought to consider, long before we knew God, He knew of us and loved us and provided a way that we might know Him and His salvation.

Twenty one years ago a poor Thai couple, who lived in the country, had a four year old daughter who became very sick.  As the child weakened, the parents took her in their arms and carried her to the nearest hospital they could get to which was far from their home.  Upon finally reaching the hospital, those parents found a doctor and asked him to help their sick child who was by now unresponsive and limp. That doctor examined the child and told the parents they had arrived too late and unfortunately the child had not survived and was dead already.

The doctor told them there was nothing that could be done now and they could place the body of the child in the hospital fridge (morgue) or just take her home for the funeral.  Those weeping anguished parents, still holding the body of their lifeless child, began to walk home when they noticed beside the exit door of the hospital there was a large cross on the wall.  They had heard before that this cross was somehow associated with God who it was said lived far above and was very great. Those parents got down on their knees, held their child and prayed to God saying, “God, we have heard you are there but we don’t know about you, but if you are there, please, please heal our child.”  Twenty minutes later, while they were still sitting on the ground, the child made a noise, spluttered and then opened her eyes. Weeping and joyful, the parents thanked the God of the cross and took their child home where she grew and became a healthy, happy child.
